I am a qualified therapist and trainee Counselling Psychologist undergoing training with the British Psychological Society.
I first started my counselling career after completing my undergraduate degree in psychology in 2017. I worked in a forensic psychiatric unit as a Health Care Assistant and volunteer counsellor. I completed a masters degree in Psychological Therapies at London Metropolitan University and have recently completed a Post Graduate degree in High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with the Salomon’s Institute. I am currently awaiting accreditation with the BABCP.
I currently work in an NHS IAPT service delivering CBT. I have also worked in University settings. I have also had experience as an Assistant Psychologist to an Expert Witness in child and family, clinical negligence, forensic and personal injury cases conducting assessments and formulating reports for the use of the courts. I currently work in an NHS IAPT service delivering CBT. I have also worked in University settings.
Throughout my career and academic training, I have also continued my professional development in training courses through the various institutions I have worked at e.g. working with personality disorders, working with social anxiety and working with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Managing Violence.
I have experience assisting clients with a wide array of difficulties including (but not limited to) generalised anxiety, social anxiety, health anxiety), depression, low self-esteem, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and PTSD
I am an Integrative Counsellor, with a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Coaching, and registered membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am also currently undertaking an MSc in Psychology at St. Mary’s University, Twickenham and am a student member of the British Psychological Society (BPS).
As an integrative counsellor, my practice incorporates different theories and interventions, and aims to address the individual needs of my clients. I work relationally and will offer warmth and trust, with a commitment to being non-judgemental and holding a safe and boundaried space for you. I will listen intently to you and be reflective with you in our sessions to encourage you to process your thoughts and emotions, notice your patterns, and consider different perspectives.
I have a previous academic and professional background in the arts and cultural sector, where my experiences included advisory, advocacy and consultancy roles. These involved the use of transferable communication, listening, and relational skills, which I bring into my practice.
I abide by the code of ethics of the BACP and the BPS.
Psychodynamic Counsellor
I am a BACP accredited counsellor with a postgraduate diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapeutic Counselling from the University of Sussex in 2001. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR). I offer short- and long-term work.
I provide a safe and confidential space for you to explore the issues that are of concern to you. You may feel overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, numb or lonely for example. Or perhaps something has happened in your life that you don't know how to manage alone such as trauma from childhood or as an adult, a bereavement or job loss. I welcome the different parts of you.
I work with each person on an individual basis, with a broadly psychodynamic approach although I also draw on other modalities when they might be helpful. I work to build our relationship in a way that provides safety and the potential for you to have a new sense of your relationship with yourself and with others.
I respect gender, race, sexual orientation, cultural and other differences.
Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist / Trainee Counselling Psychologist
I am a trained child and adolescent psychotherapist with many years experience of working with young people in a psychodynamic and CBT informed way. I aim to work collaboratively and in a way that is directed by the client, responding to the issues and concerns they feel are important to discuss.
Work with children and adolescents can include play, use of the sandtray, use of arts and crafts and psychoeducation regarding our emotions and physiological responses to them. It is often helpful to work as part of a team including parents, the school and the young person, to ensure consistency, however that depends on the age of the child, the presenting issue and the wishes of the young person receiving support.
I have worked with a variety of issues such as social anxiety, depression, gender dysphoria, low self-esteem, managing transitions and grief, attachment issues, experiences of bullying and difficult relationships with parents or peers.
In September 2021 I returned to Brighton and began a Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the University of East London, to enable me to work with adults as well as children. I am currently working with adults as a trainee counselling psychologist, working with issues of anxiety and depression, amongst others, using a humanistic CBT approach.
I am a trainee Counselling Psychologist and Psychotherapist currently completing my doctorate at Metanoia Institute. Alongside my training I work at an academic health sciences centre working to improve the provision of psychological support for people with enduring physical health illnesses.
I am an integrative therapist so my approach is informed by a range of different theories, particularly relational, developmental, psychodynamic and humanistic therapies, alongside neuroscience and research on psychotherapy. In practice, this means I use a variety of different ideas and concepts to understand a person’s needs and tailor my approach to meet them. I will listen closely to whatever you have to say. I may ask questions, offer interpretations or a different perspective, and perhaps suggest particular tools that could be helpful.
Research emphasises the importance of the relationship between a therapist and their client, and so I value the quality of the relationship and aim to provide a safe, empathic, authentic and non-judgemental space to discuss what is important.
I am a graduate member of the British Psychological Society and a trainee member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy, and abide by their codes of ethics.
