Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist / Trainee Counselling Psychologist
I am a trained child and adolescent psychotherapist with many years experience of working with young people in a psychodynamic and CBT informed way. I aim to work collaboratively and in a way that is directed by the client, responding to the issues and concerns they feel are important to discuss.
Work with children and adolescents can include play, use of the sandtray, use of arts and crafts and psychoeducation regarding our emotions and physiological responses to them. It is often helpful to work as part of a team including parents, the school and the young person, to ensure consistency, however that depends on the age of the child, the presenting issue and the wishes of the young person receiving support.
I have worked with a variety of issues such as social anxiety, low self esteem, managing transitions and grief, attachment issues, experiences of bullying and difficult relationships with parents or peers. I worked for 7 years in international schools in Rwanda and Azerbaijan and am aware of the issues facing third culture children (those who are growing up in a culture different to their parents).
In September 2021 I returned to Brighton and began a Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the University of East London, to enable me to work with adults as well as children. I am currently working with adults as a trainee counselling psychologist, working with issues of anxiety and depression, amongst others, using a humanistic CBT approach.
